Department Policies
Use of Force Policy
Deputies may use only the force reasonably necessary to accomplish a lawful objective. All uses of force are documented, reviewed by a supervisor, and reported annually to the county board.
Body-Worn Camera Policy
All patrol deputies wear body cameras, activated during every enforcement contact. Footage is retained per state law and is subject to public records requests with privacy redactions.
Public Records Policy
Incident reports and logs are available to the public through the Records Division. Most requests are fulfilled within five business days; some records are exempt under state privacy law.
Complaint & Commendation Process
Residents may file a complaint or commendation in person, by mail, or by phone. Every complaint is investigated by Internal Affairs, and the filer receives a written outcome.
Pursuit Policy
Vehicle pursuits are authorized only for violent felonies or when the need to apprehend outweighs the risk to the public. All pursuits are reviewed by the Pursuit Review Board.
Immigration & Community Trust Policy
Deputies do not inquire about immigration status during routine contacts. Victims and witnesses can always report crime without fear regarding their status.
